The Background
Most criminal defense firm websites group every offense into broad categories: DWIs, drug possession, assault, and white-collar crime. But when someone is facing felony arson charges under Texas Penal Code § 28.02, they aren't casual shoppers. They are confronting life-altering exposure: facing 2 to 20 years for a second-degree charge, or 5 to 99 years to life if a habitation is involved.
We reached out to Chiles McGuire on Instagram. While another firm was managing their primary website build, our goal was simple: engineer a dedicated, independent lead asset built purely around arson defense to capture high-severity inquiries across Texas.
The Research: Mapping Fear, Fire Science, and User Intent
Before writing any code or opening a design canvas, we spent three days conducting deep audience research into Texas criminal defendants, search behavior, and court proceedings.
1. Understanding Who Is on the Other Side of the Screen
The audience for arson defense rarely fits the profile of career criminals. Based on the firm’s clientele, the people searching are often homeowners facing insurance fraud allegations after an unexpected fire, or credentialed professionals (doctors, nurses, teachers, pilots, and police) whose licenses face immediate revocation under Texas Occupations Code § 53.021.
Many are completely innocent, caught in investigations where outdated arson methodology incorrectly ruled an accidental fire "intentional." In Texas, the legacy of the Cameron Todd Willingham case, where a father was executed based on discredited fire forensics, is an ever-present reminder that bad science can lead to wrongful convictions.
2. What Panicked Defendants Search Online
People in legal crises do not search for statutory legal terms like "specific intent" or "Texas Penal Code § 28.02." They search in plain, panicked language:
- "Should I talk to fire investigators if the fire was an accident?" (Answer: Never.)
- "Can I be charged with both arson and insurance fraud?"
- "What is NFPA 921 and can fire evidence be challenged in court?"
- "Will I lose my professional license if accused of a fire crime?"
3. Writing the Copy to Answer Real Anxieties
We wrote the entire website copy from scratch around these exact pain points. Rather than relying on generic attorney marketing, the site directly addresses the science of fire defense: origin-and-cause standards, NFPA 921 guidelines, and challenging state expert testimony under Daubert standards.
When a terrified visitor lands on the page, they don't see self-congratulatory filler. They see immediate clarity on the first 48 hours of an investigation, reassurance regarding confidentiality, and hard proof of the firm’s track record, including dismissed "Arson of a Habitation" cases.

Strategic Architecture: Designed for People in Crisis
Criminal defense is an urgent, phone-first industry. Data shows that 90% of legal landing page traffic originates on mobile devices, and inquiries contacted rapidly have exponentially higher qualification rates.
We architected the site around three conversion principles:
- Phone-First Intake: Immediate click-to-call buttons anchored above the fold and locked in a persistent mobile header so prospects can reach Patrick with a single tap.
- Minimal Friction Forms: A low-barrier contact form limited strictly to three essential fields (Name, Phone, Email) with clear confidentiality guarantees to eliminate user hesitation.
- Instant Validation: High-trust indicators, such as Super Lawyers Rising Stars recognition, client profiles, and real case dismissals, placed directly in the line of sight before any scrolling is required.
Engineering & Search Infrastructure
To ensure sub-second responsiveness on mobile networks and rapid visibility on Google, we deployed the asset on a modern edge stack rather than using bloated CMS templates:
- Edge Delivery (Next.js + Cloudflare Pages): Built with Next.js App Router and hosted globally on Cloudflare Pages, delivering sub-second response times across North America with zero downtime.
- Search Engine Telemetry: Automated XML sitemaps, clean robots routing, and injected Google LegalService structured JSON-LD schema so search bots recognize the domain as an authorized criminal defense practice.
- Analytics Telemetry: Configured Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with custom tracking for click-to-call events and form conversions from the moment of launch.
- Edge Security: Full SSL encryption with automated canonical 301 redirects to ensure seamless browser trust.

Launch & Client Feedback
The project moved from initial research to live production within 12 days. While client commitments slightly adjusted the launch schedule, the platform was verified, indexed in Google Search Console, and placed into production with ongoing monitoring.
“MARNV was very helpful in building an excellent, SEO oriented, functional, and aesthetic website for my small business. The process was seamless and the end result has heightened my presence online. I cannot recommend MARNV enough to anyone looking for a professional website that is built for success.”
The Takeaway
High-ticket service firms don't always need a multi-month, 50-page corporate overhaul to capture qualified revenue. By isolating a firm's most specialized, high-margin practice area, grounding the copy in thorough audience research, and deploying on a high-speed edge architecture, modern businesses can capture targeted leads directly at the moment of intent.
